About: The GIFT of God

Photobucket
After having a conversation with a friend yesterday, I decided I would blog it. :)

Rom 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (KJV)

Eph 2:8-9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. (KJV)

Salvation is God's gift to the human race.
Yet, there are people who believe that we can reject God's gift... that we have the choice to.
But honestly, when have you ever heard of someone rejecting a FREE gift?

Example that Cody posted on facebook:

Being #1: "Excuse me. Hi. Here is a free gift from me to you. :)"
Being #2: "Oh. Ummmm...yeah...I'm not gonna open it. But thanks anyway."

Sounds ridiculous, right?
A normal person would say, "right." ;)

Please let me know what you think!

Anyway, I know this is a short post... But I'm sick and I have to go practice for Barberville!

Blessings~

Excellent point...I've been reading a lot of 'apologetics' lately (i.e. C.S. Lewis :D), and while the example you listed isn't one I've heard yet it sounds like something I'd read in his stuff. :D

You're sick?? Oh noes!! Get better soon--you can't sing and be sick! :O

I was just thinking, yes it would be ridiculous to reject a free gift, but what if you didn't know it was free? What if you didn't understand that it was even a gift?
If you didn't understand that it was a wonderful free gift from a loving God, then you might reject it. :-)

I hope you are feeling better and had a wonderful time at the Spring Frolic!!! :-)

Yes, I do agree that the rejection of a free gift is completely nonsensical. Nobody rejects free gifts, especially nowadays! *wink* No seriously, we won't even know the gift is worth opening unless Christ enlightens us and opens our eyes... Thanks for sharing!

True insight, it is so sad how the creation just turns away from its creator, rebelling against Him, and refusing His free gift. Thank you for sharing. You also did a wonderful job at Barberville, it was a wonderful day seeing you and your family.

Blessings,
~Shannon~

Wow! I applaud you for your briefness on this little (or large) topic! While I think it's silly to reject a free gift, I can personally say that I actually have once. I did because I knew what the gift was. Maybe it is the same with people? Cody has a good analogy, but I would equate God's free gift to that of being on an airplane about to take off. I think that would be a little more like irresistible grace.

It's a short post but REAL deep! Yeah, salvation is a totaly free gift from God to each and every human walking on this planet, like says John 3:16, and like you said it is pretty ridiculous not to accept it. But God in His soveregnity grants us the choice even if He desires all to be saved like it says in Timothy 2:4 "(God) who desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth". The reason why so many don't, is cuz once recieved Jesus said we must deny ourselves, pick up our cross daily, and follow Him. Many people dont want to give up many things that being a follower of Christ would require them to abandon. I don't mean at all to say that we are saved by our works. NO! Jesus did all the work for us to have redemption of sin, but like it says in James 2:17 "Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." Again, not that works save us but obeying God's word is how we demonstrate our gratitude to God for giving us such a great gift. Like Pual says in Galatians 2:20 "i have been crucufied with Christ;it is no longer i who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which i now live in the flesh, i live by faith in the Son of God who loved me, and gave Himself for me."... Great post Emily! Keep digging deeper! :)
